Wal-Mart means progress for Waynesburg

A real department store, Wal-Mart, is finally coming to Waynesburg and what do the people do ? They complain. When you look at other cities in other counties, what do you see? Progress. The Washington area is growing at a frantic pace, as are Uniontown and Morgantown. Waynesburg seems to be content with its dollar discount stores (two of which are the same ), grocery stores and fast-food restaurants. Time seems to stand still here.

This is a college town. Waynesburg College has students nine months of the year. A good majority of them probably have to travel to Washington, Uniontown or Morgantown to make purchases on items they cannot get here. That new video game or CD cannot be found in Waynesburg. A lot of times purchasing supplies for school projects becomes a trip out of town. I travel to Morgantown to shop for groceries because the prices in Waynesburg stores are horrible.
I believe Wal-Mart will finally spark some competition for business. That will benefit the consumer. It will also, hopefully, bring in the competition (Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Best Buy, etc...).

I am puzzled as to why people would oppose progress. I'm sure a lot of people in other areas opposed new businesses, but are now thankful they came. I hope Waynesburg can be one of those towns. I'm sure a lot of people will be happy when they don't have to travel 30 minutes to shop.
