While I had a very brief moment all to myself I wanted to take the opportunity to tell you personally how deeply satisfied and overwhelmed I am each day I see the quality design we are putting out on the streets and doorsteps (including my own) of Omaha. Deanna (Managing Editor Deanna Sands) and you have created a eye-catching, easy-to-read format that can truly be called "beautiful." I have always loved the look, feel, and smell of a newspaper and that's why I'm in this business, but I have to tell you how proud the "appearance" alone makes my co-workers and I feel...it has liberated so many, also many employees' heads are held high now when they tell people they work for the Omaha World-Herald, instead of mumbling something about working at the old gray lady.

Indeed the press has added a whole new dimension with its color capabilities, BUT what a mistake it would have been to take over the old "look" to the new press...perish that thought. It was such an amazing feeling the morning after we went live...I was very tired from working so late BUT I literally had neighbors coming out of their homes or calling to me from their doorsteps telling me how great the paper looked and that they loved it...it made me forget how tired I was and a bounce returned to my step.

No doubt OWH has received a fair share of critical comments about the new format and design BUT fortunately for me I have heard only good comments, a family member even said to me how proud she was to know me...that makes me wonder what she thought of me before the "new" paper!

Alan, it has been a real pleasure and challenge working with you on this momentous, history-making project...but challenges and pleasures are two traits that make all good projects great and a true success and although our work is far from complete we are off to a great start!

Oh how I love to look at my World-Herald every day...often I spread out the paper on my dining room table and just stand back and "look" at it...I can't believe it really is the Omaha World-Herald! You (and Deanna) have done something very amazing not just for OWH and me, but you have changed the face of Omaha and our readers...to that I say "THANK YOU", they have waited so long for this...it's truly amazing...and beautiful!
